Everything you need to know about Cockatoo Grove's Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil
All of our oils are certified organic, meaning we are growing and processing with the health and future of our staff, grove, soil, waterways and the planet guiding our practices.
Our Signature oil is from mostly Corregiola olives on our own farm. We have full control over growing, harvesting and processing.
Midnight Oil is also from our own grove and harvested early in the season, when yields are low, but the flavours are fabulous, and the antioxidants are high. Polyphenols are the main antioxidants that give good oil the pepperiness and pungency that characterises high polyphenol oil. Low temperature picking and processing leads to less volume of oil, but great flavours.
Not only do we harvest with this in mind, we also do a small run of early harvest oil for the enthusiasts who want to try the incredible vibrant flavours and pepperiness of first season oil. We get our oils tested after harvest and then again mid season - on a tank by tank basis. As our oil is blended from these tanks. Our polyphenol levels for our Midnight oil have typically been in the range of 350 - 420 mg/kg and Signature 300-350 mg/kg. This of course can change season to season as well as throughout the course of the year as the oil ages.
Our Signature and Midnight olive oils are available through our webstore - we ship Australia wide. Please see our Shipping & Delivery FAQs for more information.
We are available in a select number of health food styled stores across Melbourne. Head to your stockist page to find your nearest store.
Unfortunately, the grove is not open to the public and is a working farm only.
Unfortunately, we do not sell our olive oil to the public from the grove. Head to our 'Shop' on the website and we can ship it directly to your door!
All your questions about Extra Virgin Olive Oil answered
Most Australian extra virgin olive oils are high quality and are truly extra virgin. The Australian oils that are of the highest quality tend to be the ones that are processed on site with modern equipment, within hours of picking. Ideally the fruit has been picked before it is ‘too ripe’, to optimise flavour and antioxidants in the oil.
Oils differ in flavour and health properties due to different olive varieties, growing conditions, how the fruit is treated when pick and processed and how the oil has been stored. We take extra care throughout the year to ensure we are producing olive oil that has full bodied flavour.
There are no silly questions here and we know that when you buy the best quality olive oil you want to know how to keep that quality for as long as possible. Olive oil should be kept away from light, heat, and air. So we suggest storing it in a cool, dark place, such as a pantry or cupboard, away from direct sunlight and heat sources. If you’re like us and use your oil daily, consider having a smaller bottle on the counter for your daily drizzles and top it up as needed.
Shipping & Delivery
We deliver to physical addresses, post office boxes and parcel lockers within Australia.
Unfortunately, our oil is not available outside Australia, and we don’t deliver to international addresses – it’s simply too expensive.
If you are in North America, our advice would be to look for some Californian growers who also process their own olives on-site, as a starting point for really great quality, fresh extra virgin oils. The California Olive Oil Council may be a good resource for you to begin your search. https://cooc.com/members/type/producer/
We charge $10 for orders up to $80 and $15 for orders over $80. Olive oil is heavy!
